Hi, recently my seagate external HDD conections packed up, so I decided to buy another external HDD case, and intall it there. To my surprise, as soon as i plug everything in, usb 3.0 cable and power cable, my computer started showing a window on a loop, saying the hdd needs to be formated, even though the HDD is fine. Is there any compatibility issues between seagate HDD and third party external HDD cases? the case is a Tooq, bought from amazon. I tried 2 different cases, same brand. But it does exactly the same

Hey there, Jhonatan_1.

This is a pretty common issue with external drives. Basically they "get married" to the device - in this case the external enclosure and need to be reformatted when taken out of it. The same thing might happen when a drive is used and formatted by another device like a TV, PVR, DVR or another recording device.
If you do need your data, I'd suggest that you give it a go with data recovery software: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.htm. If that doesn't help you could try accessing the drive via Ubuntu Live USB/DVD, to see if it's properly recognized so that you can get to your files. Once you've recovered everything, go ahead and reformat it.

Hope that helps.
