The additional 6 pin is there for overclocking. An 8 pin limits power consumption to 180w I believe. The 6 pin allows for a higher max power consumption, In theory that would lead to a higher overclock. Power consumption with the same clock rate is the same as the FE.

And yes your motherboard works just fine with a 1070. What CPU do you have? you don't wanna bottleneck the card.

I'm currently using,
2nd Gen Core i5-2310 2.90GHz
8 gb ddr3 ram- 1333 bus speed
Sapphire r9 270x 4gb ddr5
Corsair Cx 600m PSU

- I am planning to just buy the GPU for now.. After some months I'll go for the 6th gen i7
