Windows 8 Reinstall Missing Key

HDD wiped, no Serial Key Sticker. I know its embedded in the HDD ( i think) BUT its asking for a key when I run the install CD. How do i work around this? Is there a repair boot USB to download out there like Windows 10 has? Or what?....

Please help. If the key i bound to the MB as I believe then it should be a simple solution even though the partitions are deleted.

As long as you are using the correct version you should be able to skip the product key section of the install and then it should automatically pull the embedded key from the bios when it tries to activate.

ok thats great news! I had not considered the version. I will try another version CD.

its a Toshiba laptop. It has the win8 sticker on the bottom. I realize now i was using a win8 recovery CD and not an install disc. I am creating a usb install atm and will go from there. Thanks.

i downloaded the USB boot repair/Install from Microsoft and it installed 8.1 without a hitch. It did not require the key since it was already embedded into the main board. Thanks!
