Hi there,
My desktop has been crashing within seconds of entering a game or benchmarking software, the crash usually causes a loss of signal from the display port on my graphics card to my TV resulting in me needing to reboot to get my display back.

I previously believed this to be an issue with the hardware on my graphics card and RMA'd it but i am still having the same issue with my new one which arrived today so I came here wondering if anyone had any input!

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple driver versions on my old 390x, using DDU in between each, but to no anvil so i presume its not a driver issue.

Have done a complete fresh install of windows and that still did not help.
Also tried underclocking using MSI afterburner to 390 specs but this did not help either.

It was running fine for the first two months (my old card) previous to this issue.

I will also note that the pcie slot clip off when I took my old 390x out when it was having issues so im not sure if that could be part of the issue with the new card but bare in mind like i said the issues were happening to my old card before i broke the clip off.

Can't test the 390x in a different pcie slot as the only monitor i currently have is a 32inch toshiba tv and it cant display the bios screen properly (cuts off majority of the menu) so i cant change the settings to allow me to use it in the other slot.

Currently running
Win10 Pro
Intel i7 4790k
MSI Z97 mobo
MSI 390x
Corsair vengeance 2 x 8gb
EVGA 750w GQ

(Nothing overclocked)

Please let me know if there is any information i can provide which could help diagnose this issue!

(Not sure if this is the right place for this question in the forum as i dont know where the issue lies!)

Solution

Yes, this is bad. You should have zero errors. This could be the issue. Your memory should be under warranty and can be exchanged. That is what I would do.

oops i forgot about that will add it to the list aha, using an EVGA 750w GQ

I have been monitoring temps etc as well but it crashes before the temperatures can even get up, this card runs steady at 95 degrees but crashing before it even gets to 60

Using hyper 12 evo an cpu is averaging 35 on idle and cant remember my cpu temps ever being irratic or going that high
390x without fans on running at 56 steady old one would sit on load at about 92-94

cant get a current reading on load as it crashes almost instantly

Ran memtest 86+ last night for 9 hours roughly
11 errors within 5 passes is this quite bad?
majority of the crashes happened on test 7 in pass 1 and 2
memtest seemed to be frozen on about 6 an a half hours when i woke up and then it started running again but restarted the passes not sure if that would affect the outcome or not

Have you restarted your system lately? I saw a similar issue a couple of days ago. A pending restart for a Windows Update item was causing the issue.

I have not I shall restart in a few minutes and I shall have to message corsair and see their status on rma's etc
I wish i did this weeks ago before i sent my graphics card off! could of been up and running by now :/
Just hope this is the only issue aha
Thank you so much for your help though ColGeek I really appreciate it!

Sooo I'm back again :'D got my ram back in the post today and guess what.. same problem!
Crashed on heaven benchmark 4.0 about 10-12 seconds in (which was longer than the previous attempts by a few seconds aha)
But yeah I'm going to rum memtest again tonight to make sure they haven't sent me dodgy modules but is there anything else you can think of which could be causing this issue?
Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Just tried to run two different games Dying Light which crashed the game in a few seconds and went back to desktop, and battlefield 2 which crashed my display driver but I didn't get a screen black out and have to restart my system as usual. also when i ran heaven benchmark that did black my screen out so I'm not sure what to make of it really.

Also only just seen your last comment! I shall check my cpu for damaged pins but I doubt that would be the cause as I've not touched it since I installed it originally but at this point I'm all out of ideas so its worth a check I suppose!

Honestly I'm not sure, I checked the socket but saw nothing out of the ordinary and I did run a few cpu tests previously an that had no errors so I guess it was just a dodgy board
