Hi there, title pretty much explains it all. I have two 1070s with an i5 4690k OCed to 4.4ghz and notice in certain games at 1080p it bottlenecks the GPUs so they're only being utilized around 50-70% in certain games. Basically my obvious choice to upgrade the CPU is the 6700k BUT that'd mean id have to pay for a new mobo and ddr4 ram. So would i see a great deal of improvements on the 6700k or would the 4790k be just fine? OR would i be OK with the i5 just at higher resolutions? Thanks for any help and advice!!

Thats not a bottleneck, that is your GPUs at 1080p are massively overpowered. They don't need to run at 100% to max out whatever you are playing.

Get yourself a 2k or 4k screen then you will max them out, maybe. A 4790k or an i7 6700k is going to give you zero perfomance boost over what you have.

I get 60-70 fps in the witcher 3 in the city when the GPUs are only being used about 50-60%

What if i want to get more FPS in the Witcher 3 for lets say 144hzs? The GPUs sometimes bump down to 50% when in the cities

So if im not getting the frames i want i need to upgrade the processor so which would you recommend the 4790k or the 6700k?

Well for 144hzs 1080p i cant get past like 50% usage sometimes in games like GTA V or The Witcher 3 in certain areas of the games.

You won't get more frames from upgrading the processor. What frames are you getting and what is desired? If you're getting less than desired, there may be some other issues, but as said above, your processor isn't bottlenecking. The goal is not to "get higher usage", it's to get the desired framerate.

The % useage is not a measure of performance. THe GPU only needs to run at 50% to maintain the framerate.

Unless you are getting bad performance, framerate drops, etc you do not have a performance issue.

If you upgrade to a 1440p monitor at 144hz you may well get the usage to go up.

Its the cards not needing to run any faster to play the scene.

Again, useage is not a measure of performance. Unless you see an accompanying massive framerate drop there is nothing wrong.

I have an I76700k with SLI 1070's and you still won't see the cards running more than 50%. It doesn't seem to make sense, when one card will run 90% or more, but it just doesn't work that way. I went SLI with mine for playing Warcraft and my FPS got worse. I have spent a month trying everything possible to make it work right with no luck. So don't expect a FPS increase with your CPU. I run mine OC'd to 4.59GhZ and still have the same issue you see.
