The psu isn't great so can you maybe test with another one? maybe from a friend or ...

Which motherboard? =type. Anyway look for "AMP" or "XMP" in the bios and enable it so that the ram will work at rated settings. If having two sticks trest with each one seperately as well

thanks vic my mobo is the GA-F2A88XM-DS2 (rev. 3.2), I have only one stick of ram, I will look for amp in the bios, did you get any hints from the event log?

Go into the BIOS and load optimized defaults.
Make sure Win 10 is upto date.
Install the latest AMD chipset drivers: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows+10+-+64 (not AMD RAIDXpert Utility)
If none of the above work, getting a different PSu and testing with it would be the next step.
I excluded a BIOS update as you say this started happening "out of the blue" and it worked ok before.

EDIT: Do do all of the above, but, after reading up a bit, now my money is definitely on the PSU. Start thinking aobut where to borrow one.

and also if it helps, wenever i get this error, disk usage spikes up to 100% in taskmanager
and is then followed a minute later by a freeze up

I prematurely gave the best answer in the thread and help would be appreciated

Just the disk that goes 100%? Or the ram as well ...

WD has a tool at their site to check their drives, can take a look with that.
A long shot may be changing the sata cable,if having a dvd player swap with that one for instance.

Just the disk, i tried changing the sata cable and checking my drive using wd's tool,
but it is still crashing. It mostly happens when gaming, a lot of tabs open or somnetimes randomly

Vic i also loaded optimised defaults in bios and the sata controller is set to achi and the pc is still crashing any ideas?
I personally suspect the gpu as when it crashes in game a loud buzzing noise comes from my headset
