Above is my very first foray into building a computer. It started off as a cheaper build and ballooned from there. Anyway the Mobo/RAM/Processor have already been delivered.

I got it from PC Parts Picker after some research. According to Gigabytes approved vendor list, the RAM will work with the motherboard. So I think I am okay there. I decided on my processor due to not enough experience YET to try over clocking. Tinkering with the RAM settings. The usual things more savvy people can do.

The video card will do I think. I am hoping that it will drop in price due to the new ones that are out now.

This build has climbed in expense. Especially with the SSD and the Western Digital Black. I think many will find the Black to be overkill, but I want to pass this one down to my son later. And he likes music, games and pictures. He has no computer for now, and I know I will eventually upgrade to a better build. Already got that one in the cooker. But needs more research.

So for now this one is it. It will replace a much older computer I am running right now.

I really could use someone to backstop me on the storage. I am having a hard time finding any information on rather these two components will be supported/recognized by the motherboard.

They were better choices for boards out there. I rushed to buy in a spur of the moment need to finally just get on with it.

I was kinda bummed with my processor after I looked up Eve Onlines recommended processors. And i7? Really? But I got this on a package deal, so there it is.

I am considering on the insane for this build and dropping the coin on one.:pt1cable:

I honestly don't know whats gotten into me. Must be all the reading and drooling I am doing over others builds.

So that's it.

Flame on, but please tell me why. Its all a big learning curve for me. I can already hear the cat calls over the i7 chip now. :D

Any thoughts and improvements will be greatly appreciated. And thanks.

Motherboards do not have compatibility issues with SATA devices, if it plugs in it will work, so both drives are both good choices and will work 100%.

Replace that PSU, the NEX is not a good one, get the EVGA 550 G2 instead.

That processor is fine for gaming, you do not need an i7, in fact you would likely never even notice a difference in performance.

If you can return the memory you should and get a 2x8gb kit. there is no reason to run 4x4 there is no performance advantage and you lose the ability to upgrade to more some day.

I will swap out that power supply, I must have left that from earlier drafting. Thanks for the catch. Yeah, I suppose your right on the RAM. When I first purchased it I was still trying to slog through and understand the tables. Still am as a matter of fact. Anyway someone else has mentioned the upgrade potential. So I better do that to. Cannot understand why EVE wants that i7 processor. It does make me feel better hearing that this one will be okay from someone else. Thanks for your quick reply. It is much appreciated.

Awsome! Thank you so much. Here is the new list. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/mudcatslim/saved/NJ8RsY

Okay, I went back and compared the differences at New Egg, and although the part number was not found at Gigabytes vendor list on its site, I noticed that voltage, CAS and timing were equal. That and the 2133 hertz and DDR4 designation.

They looked different but the insides seem to be the same. Just not the same number of sticks in the kit.

Is this they way builders do it if not found on the vendors approved list? Just curious. These list kind be kind of limiting.

And if so it answers a nagging question of why some builds never went with the vendor approved part number, and how do the builders manage to put it to use anyway? RAM seems to be done this way quite often.

The motherboard manufacturers don't have the time to test every memory with their boards, as well when the board was released its possible that memory wasn't available at that time as well. As long as he specs match its highly likely it will work fine.

If you are ever not sure though the approved list is the best place to start.
