buy intel i5 4690k or i5 66ook

Solution
The 6600k is a beast. I would definitely recommend it over any other Intel CPU right now, plus DDR4 ram is great and not nearly as expensive as everyone tries to act like it is.

Intel 6600k is 1151 socket, so make sure your motherboard is compatible. If you need some help identifying your mainboard use CPU-Z and then google your model to find out what socket type you have.

6600k is newer and will perform better in the future. Currently there's not much difference between the two on current games. There's probably a couple exceptions, and that list will grow as time progresses. The 6600k also opens up DDR4 RAM. So go for the 6600k.

Depends on your budget

4690k and 6600k have very minimal price difference. But 6600k require z170 to oc and 4690k can be oc'd on good h81. So price benifit is with haswell.

you can also oc non k skylake with minor issues like loss of avx extensions which isn't bothering for gamers and normal users.

Performance wise skylake is faster and supports ddr4 so will command better resale value than haswell. When u decide to change it 2-3 yrs down the line.

So if on budget go haswell and if u can stretch skylake all the way no doubt abt it.

You seem very excited about your build, as evidenced by your handful of questions. Skylake is great. I don't know what you think you'd be waiting for. If you want this pc, buy modern tech. 7th Gen won't randomly make Skylake obsolete.

Skylake core i7 6700k and i7 Kabylake won't be much different in performance.

Also iris pro 580 is probably the best onboard gpu by Intel it performs near to nvidia gtx 730 or 740 level. Nothing intresting. Any cheap nvidia or amd gpu beats this.

also if u aren't into overclocking get a i7 6700 non k + b150 board, it will be cost effective infact cheaper than z170 + i5 and u won't have to buy extra hardware cpu cooler etc for oc. It run 3.7 ghz max all cores which is plenty.

Kabylake i.e gen 7 intel has not launched yet, How do you claim its launched!! Its a refresh of skylake and as of now we know it is exact same architecture as skylake with a few modification related to reduce tdp and a few new extension support added. The performance difference between the former and later will be almost negligible.

Kind of similar to what you see in 4770k and 4790k (haswell vs devil canyon) in range of 5-10% of IPC or even less. There was a good leap in performance between the 3770k and 4770k, it was probably more than 10% IPC (still low by Moore's law), you wont see that kind of performance jump between skylake and kabylake.

If you want to wait for a new CPU. I will ask you to wait till launch of cannon lake, gen 8 intel. Rumors are they will have a higher core count 6 mores and boost in ipc.
