The motherboard has no inpact on performance. The cpu has, but you have a top tier CPU so no worries

Z97 and Z170 are 2 different plattforms. Z97 has an LGA 1150 socket that supports 4th generation intel CPUs. You have the best 4th gen intel processor. Z170 has an LGA 1151 socket that supports 6th gen intel CPUs. Your CPU is 10-20% worse than the i7 6700k (best skylake CPU). The motherboard doesn't impact performance. It just determines which CPU you are able to use. But as I said you have a top tier CPU that won't even bottleneck cards 3 years from now.
