Plugging in ethernet from modem to router killed router power supply and tripped fuse

Not sure if this is the right place to post- starting here anyway.

I have a Motorola surfboard sb6141 modem that is currently hooked up to a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900. Both run on different wall sockets that are connected to different fuses. I have had no problem connecting and disconnecting the Nighthawk from the wall or modem.

I plugged a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X into the same socket as the Nighthawk and it booted without issue. As soon as the ethernet cable from the modem touched eth0 of the edgerouter, the edgerouter's power supply popped and the fuse for the socket it was connected to was blown. The router was undamaged as was the modem. Nothing but the power supply was harmed during the process.

I would like to use the edgerouter as my primary router, but am hesitant to plug it back in with the spare power supply. Any ideas on what the problem might be or how it might be avoided?

Thanks in advance for the help.

You may have just been unlucky. Different outlets can have different ground potentials but the ethernet ports are magnetically isolated from both the power and the ground....assuming you are not using shielded cable. It may have just been some issue that the when the device detect the port come up it took more power and blew the power supply.

Plugged in router again and had no problems. I guess it was a one time issue? Thanks for the response.
