Hey yall. just want to say thanks to everyone here at tom's hardware forums.

So, Ive got artifacts. Yes i have display artifacts. i know, i know i should have been more safe.
Aside from the usual everything, drivers, software changes, windows, Since sometime last night. whilst playing some videos(vlc, wmp) and this morning my GTX 780 is now nearly as good as a brick. I leave the best for last, In no way have it been able to install any geforce driver as of 6am this morning. I can get a display in safe mode, but still i can see artifacts.

feel free to leave comments, suggestions, or anything else that may keep me forgetting that is probably toast. .. you know, ill keep you posted' on the details Thank you and goodnight for now.

no hardware changes in 2 years. expect ssd swap.

lets see if this helps...

> download display driver uninstaller from guru3d...run it and uninstall all current drivers...
> power off the system and reset the cmos battery...
> clean the card properly for dust accumulation...
> power on the system and update the bios to the latest one, but before that, keep a copy of the older bios, in case the new one doesnt work...(optional)
> now go to the nvidia/amd website and download the latest drivers for the card and install them...
> along with that u should update ur...vcredist, c++ redistributable, directx, and .net framework...

let us know wat happns...

I took it out and cleaned it good with a can of air. I could use either MX-2 or Noctua or Arctic silver 5 thermal grease. No extra thermal pads if they happen to tear. It may have been heat related but it honestly never hit 80°C even with the factory OC going as high as 1071MHz at the standard voltage. Yes i did overclock and set the voltage to 1.2v but not in the summer.
I use this method to uninstall drivers for a few years now. seems to work quite well. http://www.overclock.net/t/1150443/how-to-remove-your-nvidia-gpu-drivers-new-2016

Only after driver after driver did i re-install windows 8 pro(DVD) then even updated to 8.1, I put in a SSD with Win 7, did not matter. Once the driver made an attempt to initialize and restart , only at the login screen does the display look like a flannel shirt from the 90s. plaid with blue and purple. before the driver install or in safe mode only the Modern UI(formerly known as Windows 8 screen) has a few dots.

I got a gtx 560 ti in their now and i can at least play stalker and mods.

It did serve me quite well. I wanted to get a new one but the 780 just did not perform poorly enough to justify an upgrade.,.. But taking into account the power efficiency the newer pascal models and RX 480 seem quite attractive at their prices. Then again, Even with a lesser factory oc variant the performance is the same as the GTX Titan. Is a shame to see the thing go. i give it another shot later today or tonight when it cools down some outside.

Well, i submitted a ticket to EVGA support. They responded and asked a few more questions. i think it well. But, just in case i do have a GPU-Z Rom file from about a year ago. I took it myself but i must admit i had very little sucess flashing a HD 6870 to a HD 6870. apparently The Diamond HD 6870 shipped with only 85 percent of the SP cores so i wanted them all. All 1120 terafail... i mean terascale 2 stream processors.
Thank you very much for your feedback

I think RMA may happen yet. EVGA warranty does not become invalid for overclocking. That and i dont feel entirely confident about putting the card into a hot oven. My case becomes a hot oven and that bothers my head when temps reach 77°C
