Avast full system scan slows pc down a ton

So yeah when i do a full system scan on avast it slows my pc down A TON like when i try to go to start menu it takes about 2 minutes just to open, but smart scan works fine

EDIT: Going to run a full scan again tonight see if it still does it, havent done a full system scan in a while since it slows everything down

a full scan is reading your hdd and the cpu is working to see what is read. this is normal for an AV software to do.

your hdd will be slow since it is busy showing EVERY file on it to avast. and the cpu is busy analyzing all that data. run the scan when you go to bed and it won't slow you down again :)

but this is normal for what avast is doing

Just did a full scan it got stuck at something called icon_readytodownload.png for a while so i paused the scan then attempted to stop the scan it then blue screened and i turned it off. Scared to turn it back on D:

no reason to worry it's just a scan. boot back up and see what it does when you set a new scan to go.

before you do that though, open task manager and see what it shows. it should show the scan using all the resources. if something else is using them, then you have a problem. make note of what is using the cpu and hdd while the scan is running

things happen. i can't pretend to know what is normal for your pc or not. but this kind of stuff can happen from tie to time.

no need to panic everytime you get a bluescreen. just try again and if it seems to happen at the same point with the same file, this tells you something is wrong with that file.

So i just ran a scan on Avira and left for about 2 hours and when i came back i was told it blue screened, very confused now. its not just avast but avira also bluescreens the pc... i was not there to see if it was a certain file but it could be that icon_readytodownload.png

then delete it and see what happens. where is the file located anyway? probably not important to the system anyway.

i doubt this is the problem and not sitting there seeing what happens i can't say for sure what it is. but i doubt a single files is somehow tripping up AV software. never seen it myself.

try to repair your windows install and see if that fixes the issue. easy to do and fixes a lot of file issues within windows. boot to your windows dvd and select "repair pc" instead of install windows and it'll scan the file structure and make any fixes that need to be. leaves your stuff alone and only looks at windows files.

wait so do i need to make a windows system repair disk or can i just use my windows disc i bought to install the os on my pc

From looking into repairing windows i see that there are different options to do once you get to the repair screen, once i get there which one should i chose?

yah it did not find anythign wrong with the system files themselves.

i don't know what else to try after that. i'll do some more digging and see what may turn up. it really does not make sense to me why the AV would have such an issue with a random file.
