What are the advantages of using Gsync and do i need it?

Ive got an asus vg248qe which apparently is Gsync capable.
My PC is a gaming PC with these specs;
i5 6500 3.2ghz
Asus GeForce 970
16 GB of corsair ram.

My question is, what is Gsync and do i need it. Will it benefit my game in anyway or will it hinder it. I do not plan to record or stream via my pc, its 100% gaming

Basically it makes your gpu synchronize the frame rate with your monitor.

I don't think it will be that neccessary. I mean unless you are planning to do hardcore gaming where every piece of screen matters then g sync might be useful. Don't spend too much on something you won't notice

Fair enough, i don't really plan to do hardcore gaming at all. But could you explain what Gsync actually does in Layman's terms?
