I have an older Sony STR-K502 5.1 receiver. I bought the unit new in 2001, and it still works great to this day! Lately, however, there's been a clicking noise coming from the receiver. Nothing seems to happen to the sound when it clicks, and it happens once every hour. The speaker wire isn't touching each other and I dusted the connectors so they're clean. I'm concerned the clicking could develop, so what is the problem and how could I resolve it.

Any chance you have a fridge or some other high-peak power consuming device on the same power line? I'd first try to use reduction that doesn't have GND connected to the rest of electrical network and see whether the clicking stops or remains. Had similar clicking problem (albeit on different device) and it came down to fridge compressor starting.
Oi, that would be the opposite of what you should try. You need to interrupt the grounding between the receiver and the rest of the world to test it. I was referring to whole power line from circuit breaker to the receiver and all devices connected to that line. Sorry if I explained incorrectly.
