Hi,

I''ve gotten these specs for X99a Godlike Gaming from MSI's website and just need some clarification on what they mean.

Slots

• 5 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots (PCI_E1~E4, PCI_E6), support up to 4-way mode
- 1-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x0/ x0
- 2-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x16/ x0*, x16/ x0/ x0/ x8/ x0**
- 3-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x16/ x8*, x8/ x8/ x0/ x8/ x0**
- 4-way mode: x8/ x8/ x0/ x16/ x8*, x8/ x8/ x0/ x8/ x4**

* For the CPU that supports 40 PCIe lanes
** For the CPU that supports 28 PCIe lanes

Does x16/ x0/ x0/ x16/ x0 in dual SLI mode with 40 lanes mean a GPU in the first slot and one in the fourth?
Why does it have two x0s in between the x16s? I would've thought dual SLI would be something like x16/ x16/ x0/ x0/ x0...

thanks for the help

Solution

Probably because it's listed in descending order from the first PCIe slot. For example, in 4-way mode, the motherboard has two PCIe slots, then a PCI slot, then two PCIe slots.
