Graphics card (GPU) Questions... Memory bandwidth vs clock speeds.

Hello everyone,
I am here to ask you a very serious question about older and newer GPUs.
So I am buying and selling used pc parts and i am glad to have seen gtx 260s and gtx 285s. Before i jump into the main question im going to say that i dont care about power consumption as well as the power supply needed...
So the question is - As you can see in the nvidia's official site the gtx 260 and 285 absolutely annihilate some of the newer GPUs talking about the memory bandwidth which in the case of gtx 285 is 159.0 gb/s while the is about 112 and as well the texture fill rate is pretty much even. The same thing goes with gtx 590 which has the stunning 327.7 gb/s memory bandwidth. I was wondering how much of an impact does the memory bandwidth has? I mean even the gtx 980 has only 2/3rds of the gtx 590 memory bandwidth... Yes i know that memory bandwidth depends on the clock speeds but how is that difference so significant??? I would be very happy if someone can explain me all of this.

The specs on the Nvidia site is a bit misleading on the 590. It list 327.7 but in reality it is actually 163.87. That is a dual graphics card configuration.

So the 980 at 224GB/s is still decently faster in the memory department. Don't forget there are also advancements in architecture. Maxwell uses memory compression that increases bandwidth by up to 30% more or so. I actually don't know if that number listed is with the compression applied or not. I am guessing it is not.

Ok now i have a different compare- gtx 750 ti has only 86.4 gb/s memory bandwidth and the gtx 285 has about 160 gb/s memory bandwidth, even if the 750 ti is as much as 20% faster it is still not equal. Does that mean that the gtx 285 is faster and then if so- why are so many people suggesting on buying the gtx 750 ti for performance... (I know that it doesnt require any more power connections than the pcie slot itself and the directx support). I still dont get it :/
 
The performance of a graphics card is not only memory performance. The GTX 750 ti has significantly faster memory also not to mention the core performance is considerably better. The bandwidth only comes into play if there is not enough of it.
