Hi guys, finally time to buy a desktop after years of dealing with laptops. I have budget of 800 to 1000, want to get gaming desktop that can handle strategy games like total war without any problems. Do you guys have any recommendations? I am looking at the HP ENVY 750 Desktop PC for $849,

Pre-built computers are a rip-off. You don't realize this until you build your own computer. This one for example boasts 16gb RAM and an i7 CPU. For gaming and every day use, currently you need 8gb RAM, for your types of games probably less but 8 is the standard, and an i5 CPU. All the money saved could have gone into a better GPU. All they're offering you here is a 745. That is terrible. The only things that are noteable are the built in Wifi, Bluettoth, and Windows. But you can get windows for cheaper on sites like Kingpin and G2A. SO please do yourself a favor and BUILD a computer. It's simple and you have the entire website to help you through the process.

Hey, I recently built my computer for about 650 and I'm loving it. I wouldn't recommend buying a prebuilt Under any circumstance. Unless you completely didn't know shit about computers. When I went into my build I didn't know anything about actually building a computer, so about 5 videos on how to build a computer later, and everything seemed so clear.
Anyway your build looks like a good deal but it only has a 745 in it all the money went to the cpu witch is kinda useless.

your gpu is going to be a "bottleneck" on your gaming pc that I7 6700 is overkill to the max. I would look for a gtx 900 series

Would upgrading the graphic cards to either of these option make the desktop a solid gaming desktop?

I'd look into the R9 390 as well. It's a bit better than the 970 but if you can't find one cheap enough don't worry about it. The 970 is a good card. Tbh you'd be fine with a 960 considering the types of games you play.

Dude any of them choices would be perfect I would go with a 4gb vram though, so you won't have many popin in bigger games like gtav and mgs v
