I'm looking forward to build my new pc!Apparently, I'm stuck between chosing the R9 390X NITRO or the upcoming RX 480 NITRO(both from Sapphire). Can someone please give me an advise which card performs or will perform better for 1080p?

My cuurent build w/o the graphics card:
Intel Core i5-6600K
HyperX Fury 2x8 gb 2666MHz
Asus Z170-A
Be quiet!Straight Power 800W

Solution
for the performance i will choose r9 390x for sure .
It can outperform the rx480 at any resoultion about
10-15%. RX480’s performance is similar to the gtx970,and the r9 390x is similar to a gtx980.So,if you really need a better performance‘s card,it is absolutely no reason to choose the rx480.
at 1080p they are going to be pretty similar, both should be capable of good frames with high settings.

That said, go with the 390x, it is SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful.
Plus down the road if you crossfire it you'd have a beast.

Hopefully you live in a colder climate, have AC, or a window nearby, as the 390s get hot.

Not so simple to compare...

1) In modern games, the R9-390X is 10% faster at 2560x1440, and only 4% faster at 1920x1080:
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/RX_480/24.html

2) The RX-480 architecture improves on the GCN design so will get a boost in future titles. (It's slightly faster in Hitman and RotT for example so the newer games start to benefit the newer design).

3) The RX-480 is better suited to VR titles (once the software starts getting sorted out).

4) *There are other differences including improvements to:
- HEVC
- overall DP/HDMI bandwidth
- HDR support

The above mainly apply to better monitors.

5) Room temperature.
Not just power draw, but room temperature is an issue to me. My room gets too hot about half of the year so any reduced power draw helps.

So...

Summary:
There are PROS and CONS here. Unless the price is very close, i don't know if the R9-390X is worth it. If more expensive I'd be suggesting a GTX1060 instead.

If VR is of any future interest then get the RX-480 because it will run better. Their lower-level access allows superior asynchronous time warp to help avoid feeling sick in VR (Google that if you want).

The R9 390x is much faster than the Rx 480 (both reference and AIB).

Now, it is also, much more expensive, so if you want to splash the cash, go for it. But be advised, the R9 390x uses much more power than the Rx 480 and produces a little bit more heat.

So if you want raw performance at the expense of much more money, and much more power draw, then R9 390x.
