So I just bought an Asus x99-A/USB 3.1 mb together with the i7 6800k. I will most likely put the parts together tomorrow but I noticed, that the BIOS preinstalled on the mb, does not support the 6800k unless I install a newer version myself. Now that I dont own one of the original supported cpus (5820k....) I am not sure how to do it.
Is it possible to boot with the officialy not supported 6800k either way and then update the BIOS?

If not I would most likely have to update with a usb stick using the flashback port provided by asus. I dont know much about it and the guides provided by asus exclude the x99-A/usb3.1 only mentioning the x99-A. Also not stating how to rename the provided .CAP files for the update.

I hope someone had a similar experience and can share some knowledge to help me out.

Solution
Download the latest file from the ASUS site and unzip it.
Rename the file to X99AU31.CAP (if file extension hidden, rename only to X99AU31).
Save the renamed file on a FAT32 formatted USB drive.
Connect the drive to the Flashback designated USB port (check the board's manual if not sure which one).
Don't start the board. Just make sure that the power supply is connected and on.
Press the Flashback button for 3 seconds and wait until done (about 1 minute).

Yes it worked well! Thanks again @alexoiu

Actually it is kinda weird that asus never mentions how to rename the file in their manuals or at their website. Probably the x99-a/usb3.1 is less popular and they somehow only care about the x99-a and a2. It might aswell be that I suck at searching :D

Besides that the flashback option and the board is perfect and I am really happy about my purchase.

You're welcome. Glad it helped.
