Hello,

I am upgrading my gpu from 280x to 1060 and also wanted to change my current stock cpu cooler into some custom, more appropriate and quiet (cpu is i5 4690k if relevant). And here I face 2 challenges:

1) I have no idea which cooler would suit me the best.
2) I have never changed coolers so i do not know 2.1) which thermal paste would be appropriate to purchase and 2.2) if I should and if so - what should I use to remove the old cooling paste from the stock cooler.

Hopefully my issues are clear enough, any guidance appreciated!

Do you want to do water cooling or stick with air cooling?
What kind of case space do you have to accommodate the new cpu fan?

I personally like artic silver thermal paste as well as the noctua nt-h1 paste.

For removing thermal paste, use a coffee filter or something non fibrous with some 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol. Plenty of youtube videos on this that can show you step by step removal but it is pretty self explanatory.

That cpu cooler does a great job for the cash and is a staple in many a case around here. Additionally this is worth checking out as well CRYORIG H7 Tower Cooler $35 on amazon currently. Either should do great for what you want and compared to stock coolers.

@sharanzo i recommend a Cryorig H5 Ultimate + an XT140mm fan for push/pull if you're into overclocking. If you're looking for an intermediate solution ($48 + 17 = $65). For high end, go for the $90 Cryrorig R1 Ultimate cooler. Yeah, we're cryorig fanboys but they're aesthetically attractive :)

Prime 95 (100% cpu load) at 4.2ghz i5-3750k hits below 68C - 69C with Push:pull, while single fan hovers around 70C up to 75C at times (depends if you control fans at quiet settings).

Cpu cooler clearance of the OP's case (a Corsair 200R) is 165mm, which is enough for a Cryorig H5, but not for an R1.
