Built my computer less than two weeks ago, but ever since I built it I've had an issue with my gpu running hot. It originally ran 82C at full load, but after tweaking some fan placements it's peaking at 77C. I know it's not dangerous to have it at that temp, but I'd like to eventually overclock it and the temp will be a major obstacle at this rate. My specs are:

- 16gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 ram (side question, I have another 8gb that are from a different brand and have a lower GHz. I think mine are 3k and the extra is 2400. Should I install it or leave it?)

- Gigabyte GA-Z170X-GAMING 5 motherboard

- EVGA Supernova 650 P2 PSU

- i7 6700k 4.00GHz

- Samsung 850 EVO 500gb SSD

- Noctua NH-U12S

- NVIDIA GTX 1070 8gb GDDR5 PCI Express 30

Plus two Cougar Vortex bearing 120mm fans and an additional case fan that came stock with my case. At the moment, the stock fan is intaking at the bottom front, one Cougar is intaking directly over the GPU and the other Cougar exhausting in line with the cpu cooler.

Is my solution just get more fans? Should my Noctua be pointing away from my exhaust? Am I posting in the wrong forum section? I'm clueless, this is my brand new first build, and it's too damn hot. I'm starting to think I'll have to just add fans until I either solve the problem or the 1070/1080 specialized cooler is available.

Solution
77 degrees is normal for a stock cooler. Usually they run at about 80 degrees. Why do you have the 2 fans mounted top and bottom? Your airflow would probably be better if you put the 2 fans at the front as intake. Unless you don't have front mounting?

I don't have a fan on top, I have one on the side and one on the bottom front. I'd have another on the front but unfortunately the only place to mount the fan wouldnt be able to draw in much air due to the case''s design. I felt the side fan would benefit more, especially since it was right on top of the gpu. The fan, plus some tweakin here and there has certainly helped. At this point though, Im sure the only way I'll be able to fully over clock is if I get the 1070 cooler from nvidia, which I'll get as soon as it's in stock.

Ah, i see. Fair enough. I can understand your concern, 77 degrees is relatively high compared to aftermarket cards but it's actually better than the average reference card. I would only worry if it gets to 85 and above. The "normal" operating range for cards is 60-80 degrees

I have a NZXT H440, best case I've had so far. The cooling is tip top. I have 3 120mm NZXT fans at the front as intake, 1 140 NZXT fan at the back for exhaust and 2 140mm Corsair fans for my radiator at the top as exhaust. The 3 front intake fans aren't amazing, they're decent but provide lots of air for my PC. The only thing is, because i have 3 fans at the front, I can't install a DVD drive. I don't have a use for a DVD drive but some people do. The drive bays are removable too, so there's nothing in the way of the air to restrict the flow.
