So i bought the Zotac 1080 Amp edition (slightly higher clocks and different cooler) but i received a Founders Edition instead. Of course Newegg is out of stock again, so sending it back will leave me waiting for 2-3 weeks, and thats if i catch the next stock up. So im kind of in a bind. I got this card for $50 under MSRP and would had to have to wait for the prices to come down again as well.

Is there really any difference? In the event that i do need to OC my card, will i run into limitations with the FE that i wouldn't with the spin-off cards boasting OC ability? My only real gripe is i don't like the FE design (granted the AMP was much better looking)

Solution
What I would do is have keep this card but have New Egg give you a discount or a coupon. Then water cool the 1080 and get rid of the FE fan.

thank you. After reading around, ive seen a post or two that cite that FE cards are throttled, and have added performance spikes/limitations.

Wow, when did you order the card? I just ordered the same card as you on monday and i havent received it yet but will tomorrow, according to fedex. I honestly hope i dont have to deal with this, but i would def. return the card. FE cards are the worst out of all the cards, money and performance wise, return and wait for the zotac. It will be worth it.

I'm still learning and if you could can you send me some data to prove the claim? I know that if you have FE card the cooling is limited and the card can thermal throttle also that the non FE cards are OC from the manufacturing something that you can easily do yourself with FE. Since the factory OC if you test stock FE with stock (OC) non-FE and add the extra cooling from the non-FE you will of course get better performance. The question is and this is what i would like to see if someone has data on to support your claim is if you water cool FE and non-FE and you OC two cards and you perform this on enough units not on just one but like 10-20 what would be the result.

Looking forward to your data if you have a chance to send it.

Thanks in advance

Well, this is just a quick video on benchmarks between the zotac 1080 amp edition and the geforce 1080.It doesnt say FE, but thats usually what is being used as a reference. Plus the MSRP of a regular 1080 is 599, the FE is 699, and there are no difference in specs.

here is the link to nvidias site with 1080 specs:

Thanks for the link, as projected out of the box the non FE will outperform FE

Question not answered for me though xxpoloxx, did you order the card this week or was it last week? The card went up for sale at about 7 or 8 on monday and thats when i placed my order. Just wondering if you were one of the others to ''buy'' it that day.

No questions i agree with you... but if he can get out of it on top he should try but its completely his decision as the purchaser if he wants to keep this or not and the supplier needs to accommodate him . There are two different subjects in the posts if you ask me

1. is the card better then the FE
out of the box the non FE will perform better...i'm still searching for data on if with manual OC and with proper cooling how will the FE perform vs Non-FE

2. should he keep the FE card if he gets it the seller is gone make it "right" by him discount coupons or something
