I have a PC with a 120gb SSD for the boot drive and most of my games on my 1tb HHD. A few days ago my pc would freeze almost instantly after boot and would unfreeze and freeze again for a few minutes. After that my HDD would stay at 100% load. I have looked all over the internet to find an answer but haven't found anything. Any help?

Go ahead and try the suggestions from the previous poster (GenericName34234).

If you have no luck with that, proceed with the tests. Unfortunately as an official WD rep, I can't recommend any specific product that's not under the WD brand. However, I can show you this article from which you could choose a 3rd party diagnostic tool and run the tests on the drive, to see what's the situation: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/tophddiag.htm

Hey there, 9third.

Try disconnecting the HDD to see if you the freezing issue continues. If everything seems OK without the HDD, then I'd recommend that you give it a try with a different SATA port and different cables, to see if the issue reoccurs. If it does, backup your important data immediately, just to be on the safe side.
After that you should download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool and run the tests on the drive to see if anything out of the ordinary pops-up.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Thanks so much! I have noticed that this only happens if I haven't been using the computer in a while. Switching the SATA ports seems to work for now, but I need to come back tomorrow to see if there are any problems then. But so far, everything is running smoothly.

EDIT: After restarting the pc, it did it again. Every few seconds it would freeze, unfreeze and keep doing that for a minute or so. And the hdd is still at 100% load. :/ I didn't see any software on Toshiba's website so is there any software that you would recommend?

I had a similar problem with a Transcend SSD. The intermittent freezes stopped after I installed the latest Intel Chipset and Intel Rapid Storage Tech (RST) drivers. Not sure if one or both were necessary, as I installed them at the same time.

Turns out the bios was messed up :/ when I cleared the cmos and reinstalled windows 10, (with all of my data still where it was) everything was fine.
