Hey guys,
So I'm wanting to upgrade my 780, its slowly not functioning like it used to and since it was such a top of the line card a few years ago, looking at anything under 60fps makes me want to vomit (mentally not physically) and so I have been looking for a new GPU.

At the time of my build, everything was fairly low quality, as I had a 2k budget and probably didn't pick the best parts for the price. I have 16gb of DDR3 ram, and intel i5 4570 cpu and a gigabyte z87m-d3hp.

The GPU I have been really liking the look of is the 1060. Would it be worth the upgrade and will it bottleneck my CPU? Also, just a general question, will my DDR3 ram be okay with it and so on.

Cheers

Solution
There is nothing wrong with the basis of your PC (proc, RAM, etc.) for today.
Only your GTX780 needs to be upgraded, assuming your PSU is good and strong enough.
I would aim directly for GTX1070, if you have the money.

the i5 you have still has lots of life left. the newer haswell and skylake are only slightly faster then your older cpu. intel the mb or cpu fails you be fine on the newer gpu upgrade. if the older card under warranty and you think it a warranty issue try and rma it then sell the replacement.

Cheers guys, I would get a 1070 if I had the money, but the whole living in australia makes everything so much more expensive, a 1070 is $750 on average compared to a 1060 which is about $450 on average.
Thanks again all for the answers
