HI, I just purchased Asus X99 ROG STRIX mobo. I have used 4 x 16GB Corsair DDR4 memory which is in the QVL. As per manual, I plugged in the memory into slot A1, B1, C1, and D1 without problem. Now I want to check if slot A2, B2, C2 and D2 are are working fine for future upgrade. However I cannot make it work by using single memory on any A2, B2, C2 and D2 slot or using two/ four of them at same time. I always got Q code 53 (memory error). Is this limitation from X99 motherboard or faulty on my motherboard at even DIMM ID slots?

Solution
From the compatibility doc: - Ensure to install at least one of the memory modules into the A1*/B1*/C1*/D1* slot.

You could try installing 1 in A1 plus A2 and see if it boots. It may not boot with an unsupported memory configuration.

Also DIMM slots are not the way they used to be, they don't go through the northbridge anymore so when testing slots all you are really doing is checking if the CPU is installed correctly. I guess you would find out if you had bad solder path to the CPU but it's probably not too common.

thanks mate. I tried on A1 and A2, then B1 and B2 slots all went well too. You have relieved me. This mobo box was not sealed when I received it but all features seem working good.

Yes i do had a same case witb my x99 asus mobo..got errors on rams seated on a2b2c2d2..but when i add 1 stick on A1 slot...booted perfectly and no errors...is this normal?..because my gut tells me that since my mobo was a quad channel it only works fine if the gray channel slots are occupied with rams (the primary dual channel)..meaning the black ones are slots for using quad channels which you cannot utilize to work well unless you put rams on the dual channel slots( in either slots in a1b1c1d1) in order to work the rams in the quad channel slots a2b2c2d2...
