Hi Everyone,

So I went on holiday with my hard drive and it went through the x-ray in the airport working and came out not working.

I got it home and checked it, the whole hard drive is unallocated in disk management.

I have tried the free EaseUs partition repair wizard to try and recover the drive to no effect. I have tried disk repair tools in windows to no effect.

The only way that I am able to find the files is by doing a "deep scan" on EaseUs data recovery, however this software charges for its use, and the files look like they are all non-named and jumbled up, which will not be fun to sort out.

Is there any way for me to effectively repair the drive, recover the data with the names they previously had? Or will i need to buy EaseUs?

Thanks

Welcome to the TH community, @eddytkirk!

Unfortunately, it sounds like the HDD has suffered some damage. :( I'm afraid that your best bet on getting your files back would be a professional data recovery company. Any DIY attempts would put additional stress on the drive and possibly corrupt it even more. From what I can gather, it seems like even the data in the 'deep scan' results could be corrupted, too.
Another thing you could try is using a Ubuntu Live CD .

However, If the HDD is physically damaged, you would most probably NOT be able to repair it and use it again. Even if you do, it would be highly dangerous to trust the external with any sort of data.

My recommendation is to contact the HDD manufacturer's customer...

My recommendation is to contact the HDD manufacturer's customer support and check your warranty period. They could also refer you to some data retrieving companies.

Best of luck!
