Best GPU to go with old Pentium 4 3.8Ghz

Well, if you can manage to find them, I think there was an 8x AGP version of the 8800GS or something like that. Also some contemporary AMD GPUs. They are quite expensive new, and finding them used is tricky.

Honestly, anything with AGP isn't old enough for a retro gaming rig to me. PCI video cards and ISA sound. Maybe a Pentium II at the top end, but most games from that era could easily run on a Pentium or K6. There is a brief period of game software that doesn't run well on old systems due to performance, but can't be handled on modern OS, most of these are now available via GoG or Steam.

It's PCIe...
Well, not necessarily retro, but just... old games that aren't demanding.
My retro gaming rig is my NES :)
