Hi,

I recently built a PC and I'm having a problem with the svchost process, it uses up 25% of the CPU which is a bit high? I thought at first I had a Trojan or something so I reinstalled Windows 7 but it still appears to be the same. I checked the file location and it is in system32 folder but I don't know why its that high? Can someone please tell me why?

Any help is appreciated.

Solution
i would wait for it, a fresh install of windows 7 can take several hours to scan for updates and several hours to install the updates, just let it do its thing overnight.

svchost is just a container.
you have several svchost services running at the same time.
you have to identify the PID of the offending svchost
you have to identify what is inside the offending svchost
google svchost troubleshooting for more details.

often svchost problems are related to windows update, you can go into services and disable the windows update service to quickly determine if this is the problem.

That is "normal" when Windows is looking for or running updates.

There are a few patches for this, KB3138612 KB3145739 and a few others, but run those two and see if it fixes things.

It is related to updates however when I check for updates (been looking for over 2 hours) it seems to be still going in circles and finding nothing. Still showing "checking for updates", would it be best to just disable it?
