Yestersay my custom PC that I built about 7 months ago was working fine. I shut it down before going to bed like any other day and today it is not working. When I press the power button , nothing happens at all. I tries everything ; jumping the power supply with the paperclip trick and the psu fan was working, checked the power button, removing my cmos battery. I don't know if it's my motherboard , and I don't know how to troubleshoot it. Please help!

That is pretty odd. Might as well reboot it now so you will know. I wonder if you the GPU wasn't seated correctly or maybe some dust was in the PCIE slot?

It sounds like your PSU might have died. This is a rather stupid question, is the PC plugged into the wall, AC cord not pulled loose and the power supply switch is set to on? I personally have hit the power supply switch by accident before and banged my head for a few minutes thinking I had a dead PC.

The paper clip test is to force the power supply to come on without the motherboard telling it to. A cheap tester can help verify as the paper clip inst always foolproof.

If the PSU tester shows everything is working then it is likely to be a dead motherboard but I would start with the PSU first as it really sounds like the issue in your case.

If it's plugged into a power strip try plugging it directly into the wall. I've seen power strips fail for no reason before when the user thought his computer had died.

All you proved with the paperclip trick is you are getting SOME kind of voltage. Unless you got a multimeter you haven't verified the PSU is putting out the required 12v, 5.5v, and 3v on the different lines.

Not sure what you mean by "little tester". If you really want to know what is going on with a power supply use a multimeter. You can measure exact voltages for every output that way. They aren't expensive and come in handy for all kind of things besides computer problems.

I got updates! Pc finally started after I removed the GPU (strange). But now, wherever I plug my monitor, nothing shows up on my screen! VGA, HDMI, DVI, nothing. The Pc is running but I think its not posting because when I press on the power button, it immediately shut down. Not like when Windows has booted up, it takes a couple of seconds. My motherboard is dead? Help !

Since the GPU is out I assume you hooked up the onboard graphics? Can you try the cmos battery removal one more time with GPU out. Just guessing here but you may need to reset the BIOS once more to get it to default back to on board graphics.

Okay so I don't understand what the fuck is goint on, but I reinstalled my gpu and now my pc works. Weirdest thing ever but everything is fine, except that I am afraid to shut down my PC now.
