Hi i want to upgrade my CPU, i want the best CPU performance that my motherboard can handle.
my motherboard is GA-T671MG.
this motherboard supports, Intel Core2 Duo, Pentium D, Pentium 4, Celeron D.
Out of all 4 of these CPU's, which one is the best and most powerful one?

Solution
Definitely the Core 2 Duo. Pentium 4/D's or Celeron D's typically have high core clocks, but that's only to compensate for their IPC (instructions per clock). They also run hot because of the high clocks. The Core 2 Duo is based on a completely redesigned internal architecture that doesn't need high clock speed to achieve high performance so it also runs cooler. I couldn't really find much info on the SiS 671 chipset on that board but a Core 2 Duo E4700 should work.

Yes, as more GHz equates to better performance. However, you have to get one that's supported by your motherboard. The main thing to pay attention to is the FSB speed; I've tried to find some accurate info on your particular motherboard and I'm getting conflicting numbers. One site says 800 MT/s FSB, which limits you to a Core 2 Duo E4700, but another says 1066 MT/s which means you can use a Core 2 Duo E6700. I would pick the E4700 just to be safe since SiS chipsets are flaky (I own a mobo with one, not a big fan).
