How would I upgrade from a Intel HD 4600 integrated card to a dedicated gpu like a Nvidia GTX 960?

So I wan't to upgrade to a GTX 960 but I don't know how to get it installed, get the drivers and also don't know if it's compatible. I will be getting a new 500w power supply if I buy the 960 so it does have good power and enough space but I don't know how I would install it and somehow "disable" my Intel HD 4600 integrated graphics or how to plug in my monitor to the 960. By the way i'm not good with computers so sorry if I sound stupid..

Make sure your motherboard has a pcie 16x connector and psu can handle the additional load

When Installed just plug your monitor cable into the gpu. Your integrated hd graphics will disable itself automatically
After that just install the driver from nvidia then you are good to go!
