I recently found out my cpu and MOBO have a compatibility issue and I want to remedy that. It is about time I upgraded anyway. I have new DDR4 RAM on the way so I need the following things:
- A new Intel CPU
- A new Intel MOBO compatible with DDR4 RAM
Honestly I am trying to stay away from the I5 6600 and I5 6600k just because of the price, so any other Intel CPUs that you can suggest and are a decent upgrade would be appreciated.
BTW I live in Canada so everything is expensive here D:

Solution
Well going with DDR4 you are limited to skylake and thats either the i7, 6700 or 6700k, the i5's which you don't want, or the i3's that are dual core, so by choosing DDR4 you pretty much limited yourself to what you don't want. i5's are like $240 up here and i3's $170, so not a huge diff in price. I'd go for the I5 myself if you're set on this path of DDR4 RAM. I know every saying dual core intel is enough, blah blah. 4, 6, 8 core game optimization is here and getting better all the time.

So I have a SkyLake Core I3 6100 and I gotta tell you that it is awesome for gaming. I have a Micro ATX case so I got an MSI Mortar Z170 motherboard and it has been flawless. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6ZP3R87949&cm_re=msi_mortar-_-13-130-877-_-Product

2 points:
1. An i3 6100 will have very close performance to the original Core I5 Sandy Bridge 2500 chip.

2. High Clocked DDR4 ram has a BIG performance boost for SkyLake Processors

So if you go with Sky Lake get the highest clocked ram your motherboard can handle.

If you have any additional questions about the 6100 I would be glad to answer them.
