I am currently planning to upgrade my dedicated graphics from crossfire R7- R7 240 to an Nvidia graphics card, my PC is a HP Envy running A10-8750 APU, and I want to enhance its gaming capabilities. I am allowing myself an upgrade in PSU as well, can someone inform me on the optimal graphic card I can get with my cpu.

Solution
Here's what I would recommend to you...

For the GPU (Base Price 590$ on 220$ Rebate for 370$!):

MSI GeForce GTX 980TI 6GD5T OC

This card is currently 220$ OFF, so get it quick for the extra performance for your money! :)

For the Power Supply:

EVGA SuperNOVA 650W 60+ Gold Fully-Modular

This PSU is 75$ but it's one of the cheapest ones out there that will match your PC. And it's EVGA, so it's...

This PSU is 75$ but it's one of the cheapest ones out there that will match your PC. And it's EVGA, so it's reliable. I STRONGLY recommend sticking with 80+ Gold with such parts. Also you saved money on the GPU, so you're still under budget!

If you were wondering, there is no "Best match" with your CPU, since some games use more CPU, others more GPU.

A GTX 1070 would be a better choice than a 980 Ti:

The 1070 a newer card which draws close to half the power and performs better.

The cheapest 1070 is also 60$ more expensive and there won't be much difference on 1080p. The 1070 is better in 1440p because it has more VRAM.

If you want more future proofing go with the 1070 but it's quite a bit more expensive. Otherwise the 980TI is a very good choice.

The 1070 would be better on Windows 10, if using something else (like Windows 7 / 8.1), getting the 980TI is probably a better option since the newer cards perform better especially on DirectX 12 which is only on Windows 10.

Basically,

1080p = 980TI
1440p+ = 1070

Under Budget = 980TI
Over Budget = 1070

Windows 7/8.1 = 980TI
Windows 10 = 1070

You can judge what is most important and make your choice.

Best for budget 980TI:

Best for budget 1070's:

Thank you for your help, I've looked into your suggestions and checked their compatibility with my pc case, and so far it seems okay in terms of fit. Just a question, why is it a waste when 980TI gets paired up with A10-8750?

You're pairing a GPU that was, in the recent past, $700+, with a CPU that's worth about $65, and will cause low framerates in many games regardless of what GPU or graphical settings. There's a fair chance you'd get more performance out of doing something like an RX 480 (~$200) + i3 6100 ($110) + H110 motherboard ($55) + 8GB DDR4 ($35).
