So, I recently received my xeon x5460 that you guys suggested me to buy here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3074165/cpu-lga775.html. I replaced my core2 duo e7600 with the xeon and tried to boot up. When i power the pc up, after the acer logo where you can access bios, it freezes at the windows 10 logo. Peripherals (Keyboard and Mouse) turn the lights off and i dont know why. I had to put my e7600 back again to use the pc.
Thanks for the incoming answers!
Have a nice day.:)

Solution
I've never updated my BIOS and generally the advice is don't do it unless you need to.

To be honest, I'm not sure you need to flash your BIOS either:http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/275834-30-what-symptoms-supported

The above link mentions if a BIOS doesn't recognise a CPU, then the PC won't boot or will throttle down. Your PC can get to the Windows logo...

Force windows in safe mode, what windows ?
If it cant load in safe mode, reinstall windows.

Reading through your original thread I don't see any recommendations; I saw a lot of suggestions.

However, there are questions regarding your current problem.

(1) Did you mod your motherboard and/or CPU?

(2) Is the Xeon x5460 already modded when you bought it?

(3) Did you update your BIOS as others had suggested?

Personally, I'm surprised it even got as far as the Windows logo if the above things weren't completed...

EDIT:

Now, assuming you have modded correctly then the next logical step would be this thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

Check through the points and see if it helps.

I bought the cpu already modded, and i tried to update my bios but it doesnt work i dont know why.
None happened to me in the link that you post there.
Thanks!

Considering those who modded on the original thread mentioned having to update the BIOS, that would be the thing to look at.

It does depend what your current BIOS version is. Looking at your original post, it seems you have version P01.A3. There are later BIOS versions which mention certain fixes, but don't mention additional CPU support.

As for the link: you tried all the steps and none of them helped? (The RAM one seems to be the most common thing which helps.)

I think that's all the suggestions I have to offer.

Hi, thanks for your support. I have tried to install the latest bios which can be found here (http://www.acer.com/ac/es/ES/content/support-product/1189;-;Veriton%20S480G). The explanation is kinda bad. I was wondering if you could take a look at tell me gow to do it.
Thanks!

The above link mentions if a BIOS doesn't recognise a CPU, then the PC won't boot or will throttle down. Your PC can get to the Windows logo suggests the BIOS is probably fine. However, you could check the BIOS screen when the PC first boots and see if it recognises the Xeon (usually have to press DEL when the PC first boots). If it does, then the BIOS isn't the problem; it's something else. Whether it will recognise a modded Xeon I have no idea. You need help from those who have modded a CPU to give you an answer.

If you're unsure about this, then trying to update the BIOS is a bad idea as you could ruin the motherboard.

After I linked the thread of the POST issues you wrote: "None happened to me in the link that you post there." I'm not sure what you mean, as it is a list of things to check when you have a POST issue. When troubleshooting you have to eliminate all possible causes. Window freezes might be different and even peripherals can be a cause. It is a matter of finding where the problem is, and the first step is to eliminate the obvious causes.

Again, no actual advice but a lot of thoughts and suggestions.
