3rd and 4th RAM slots causing 4 short beeps

Hey everybody,

So I find myself at a loss. My current system is running a 3570k on a Asrock Z77 extreme6/TB4 with (originally) 2x4gb of G.Skill 1600mhz Ripjaws X series. I bought another 2x4 (the exact same ones of course, and I accidentally bought the same but in 1x8gb format) but I am having an issue. When inserting RAM in the 3rd and/or fourth slot (even when it's the only DIMM in at all) my system won't POST and beeps 4 times. I know it's not the RAM itself because it happens no matter what stick I put in as long as it is in the 3rd or fourth. I'm also fairly sure I'm running in single channel, says so in my BIOS when I boot with the faulty slots empty.

So... What gives ? It really sounds like it's the slots but isn't it funny that they both don't work ? I'm the second owner of the CPU and Mobo kit but at least I never put RAM in those slot before.

Any help is greatly appreciated !

EDIT : I just thought of something. My CPU socket as a few bent pins on it but I never had any problems related to that. Could the memory controller have issues with that and being unable to reach the 3rd and 4th slots ?

I JUST went through a similar issue. It was slots 1 & 2 that wouldn't POST. Ultimately it ended up being the pins on the first mobo. I had a lot of bent pins. See what happens is some of those pins have to read the memory slots, when it can't you get these types of issues I've learned. I've been all through toms hardware and reddit trying to figure out why mine was doing this. That ended up being the issue. If not the mobo then check the cpu for bent corners.
4 short: System timer failure- The system clock/timer IC has failed or there is a memory error in the first bank of memory.
Try resetting the bios by removing the Battery for 20 secs and then re-inserting it. bent pins shouldn't be a problem as long as they have contact with the corresponding electrical pad on the CPU.
