Hi, Just recently I have build a new PC and my CPU Is changing temperature very rapidly anywhere from 35 degrees to 55 degrees, It usually hovers around 50 - 60 when playing easily run games. Its an I7 4790k no OC'ing done, being cooled by a 212 evo. Its in a MSI z97 mobo. I was planning on OC'ing in the future. If these temps are normal will i still be able to OC?

Sound normal to me. You want to keep it in the 'safe' zone, which would be <80'C at 100% load (stress test, burn in test etc).

Your ambient temp (in the room) plays a big part in it too. 22'C is the standard 'ambient'. If you happen to have a non-air conditioned room, in a warm climate where your ambient could be 30'C, you have less room to play with, and may have to consider aftermarket cooling, regardless of OC plans.

~50'C range seems fair for 'easy' games - the only way to find out for sure would be to stress test, taxing your CPU to it's maximum for a period of time. If it stays below....say 70'C, you have a little room to OC 'as is'. If it's up near 80'C, you need to explore your cooling options before you go any...

If its >80'C now, you should seriously consider upgrading your cooling, regardless of whether you want to OC.

Very helpful thanks! The weather where I am has been very hot the last 3 days but that's usually all we get, the rest of the time it's pretty cold so maybe that's raising the temp a bit. Well im just happy they are normal temps, thought something was wrong. Thanks again.
