Hey

Can I clock this card:
https://www.asus.com/ie/Graphics-Cards/ROG-STRIX-GTX1080-A8G-GAMING/specifications/

To same speed, and keep the same temps and overall the same performance as this card:
https://www.asus.com/ie/Graphics-Cards/ROG-STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-GAMING/specifications/

They only got the A8G in stocks, but I can't find a diffrence other than the speeds, so I should be able to clock it to the same, with the same temps?

Regards, Noiz

Solution
There is a lot of factors. That clock speed and tempos are due to that specific GPU core being better and probably able to get to higher clocks under lower voltages. The lower end one probably can but will probably require more voltage and will probably run a bit hotter.

That said the DCIII design is pretty nice and you would probably only have to set a custom fan curve to keep it cooler.

So Does asus basicly see how well the GPU performce and then decide how to clock it and makes it into one of their 3 asus Strix 1080s?

I really don't wanna wait for the fully oc'ed one, using a HD530 now, think I'm just gonna go for the A8G. Can't really decide

There's always a chance that your card may be binned. So cards that are already "Overclocked" will most likely OC better than regular versions. With that being said, it depends on how your chip is. If you cannot wait, you're better off buying the standard strix and trying OCing from there.

That is how every company does it. Look at EVGA and their SC/SSC/FTW etc lines. Normally they are the same design with some having higher overclocks.

With the Strix I know that Asus has the standard and the OC version. The OC version is normally able to get a bit higher clocks.

Unless you plan to game at 4K the difference might not be that much. Would need a proper review to be able to tell.
