So my son and I are building a gaming pc together. First time doing this. Got great advice here, used PC Parts picker, got an "everything is compatible" okay from them, but now finding the Asus PCE AC 56 wireless adapter does not fit in the case slots! :( Also, eyeballing the case slots with PCE/I slots on the mother board suggest they are not going to line up either. ??? Trying not to panic..
A) Suggest Another wireless adapter with the external/moveable antennae?
B) what do we do about the opening and the mb slots not quit aligned?

What case are you using? The PCE AC 65 should use a standard full height PCI cover.
The lanes do not have to be perfectly aligned, as the card itself is along the top of the cover, while the rest of the card (IE heatsink, etc) hangs below.

Can you post pictures as well?

Okay, never mind on those questions..,HOWEVER -- to the point of turning on power, but the machine goes on beautifully, runs 15 seconds or so, powers off a few seconds, then powers back up -- in a constant re-boot cycle. Looked here and confirmed the reset connector is seated correctly...read it might be shorted so to trouble shoot, disconnect it or it will "cycle forever'. So disconnected and tried again...still cycles repeatedly...

PSU is a 550 and according to parts picker we only needed 450. We had an issue w/ our monitor so didn't see if we reached BIOS but kind of assumed it hadn't before powering down again.

We checked that everything was seated, and power connections to motherboard were good, etc. Is it possible it DID reach BIOS before cycling down? But even if it had, would it have mattered? I assume if we'd hit "delete" to get going, it would have still cycled back down before we could go further.

We have a geforce GTX 960 ACX 2.0 gpu, A Intel H110 Micro ATX DDR4 Motherboard, Intel i5 6500 cpu, 2 4gb ram sticks, and PSU is XFX TS 550w Full Wired 80+ Bronze

Really appreciate your help! This was a bday gift thing and the kid's wicked frustrated (especially after getting excited when it power on!)

We thought so - clicked in just like all the instructions/videos and such we had around us. Can certainly double check it. We even lifted the motherboard by holding the fan and everything was solid( didn't feel wobbling or anything). Can see all fans spinning, etc. Seems weird, too that it could overheat in 15 seconds? The case has one fan of it's own, the gpu has 2 fans (they only trigger if it gets hot), the case is a corsair spec 01 and is half empty. I guess we'll double check that the cpu fan is seated. If it is, where does that leave us? (getting nervous cuz googling suggests bad motherboard)

If that dosent work, I would suggest starting a new thread in the components or systems section, simply because you will get more relevant information given a new thread. I will probably keep an eye on it too and let you know if I come up with anything.

If the CPU is not transferring heat into the heat sink (bad seating, missing thermal past, that sort of thing) it will overheat faster then you think. And without the transfer of heat at that point the fans have no chance to reduce the heat as it is not making to them.

The fan is the one that came with the i5 6500 cpu...we weren't supposed to put thermal paste on anywhere ourselves, right? I mean, I never saw anthing saying that. The fan should have it on the bottom already, correct?
