Is this the sound of a dying drive?

Sound

Sorry if it's not clear enough. It's a steady ticking sound, once every second.

I hear this every once in awhile from my desktop when trying to open a folder and it's usually (9 times out of 10) accompanied by a short freeze that lasts about a minute.

Solution
With the hard drive becoming difficult to access already, I expect cloning to be more trouble than it's worth. You can always put it in a small hard drive enclosure once you have your new hard drive and try to drag over your Steam folder directly.

While I cannot hear the sound, what you describe, both sound and behavior, are indicative of a drive that is well on its way to Storage Valhalla. Replace the drive and restore your data from your backup sources - hard drives are non-serviceable components.

My phone's not good at recording :/

Would it be easier to clone it once I've bought a replacement? I've backed up everything except for my steam folder which is now 50% of that hard drive.

Alright, I guess it's time to go shopping.
Thanks for the advice :)
