I have an HP Pavilion A6400f, Core 2 E2200, with 8GB RAM. For the second time, making a change to the BIOS has caused the less than stellar error message the Windows did not start normally. I got the options to repair Windows or to start normally. The automatic repair runs for twenty minutes or so and accomplishes nothing. The last time this happened I had to completely reinstall Win 7 Pro since there appears to be no Repair Installation option any more. Trying to use a restore point doesn't work.

What now? The HDD is fairly new. The first time this happened I upgraded the BIOS from 5.13 to 5.43. This time all I did was try to change the drive from RAID to AHCI. Restoring the drive to RAID did no good.

If you set it before the OS install, no problem.
If you try it after, problem
