Why is my desktop not picking up my headset's mic signal?

Hi Tom's Hardware forums.

I tried connecting my headset (it has a speaker and mic cable) to my desktop. The speaker worked very perfectly but the mic had trouble picking up my volume signals. I tried to speak as loud as I possibly could but when I tried to play back my sound, I heard hardly anything. I even tested the speaker on Youtube and it worked without any sound errors.

I even tested my mic's headset on my laptop and it was working fine. Both my laptop and desktop drivers are installed as Realtek HD audio. I don't know why it works on laptop but doesn't work on desktop.

I even made sure I fully plugged in the 2.5mm pins all the way in and I rotated them to make sure but it wasn't working. I also tried the back port of the motherboard's mic port but it didn't work either.

Has anyone had trouble with their mic's signal not working on their desktop? If so what's the solution?
