Hello everyone,

I will be upgrading some PC components this week as my old SeaSonic PSU (M12II 750W Evo) and my GPU (GTX 780 GHZ ed) recently broke, and some advice would really be helpful. I use my PC mostly for Audio composing/editing and gaming.

These are the other components in my system:

  • MB: Asus Z-87A
    CPU: Intel i7-4770k
    RAM: 2x8Gb Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz @8-8-8-24
SC: Asus Strix Raid DLX 124dB SNR
    SSD Samsung 850 EVO 250Gb
    CASE: Corsair Carbide 330r
Monitor: Qnix 2710 II Evolution 2560x1440p
I have already ordered a Gainward GTX 1080 GLH to replace my gpu.

1) Now would it be worth upgrading my CPU/MB/RAM, or is it still fine to keep them - and maybe just overclock the CPU to get a bit more performance/FPS? After reading some reviews I was thinking of a Corsair H100i v2. Can you recommend it?

2) Regarding the PSU, I had already RMAd it once, so this time I will get a new one altogether. Which one would you recommend amongst these (my budget is about 150$):

  • XFX ProSeries Black Edition 850W Gold
    XFX XTR 850W Gold
    CORSAIR CS850M 850W Gold
    CORSAIR RM850x 850W Gold
    EVGA 850 GQ 850W Gold
    SEA SONIC M12II 850W Bronze
    COUGAR GX 800W Gold
Thanks for the help!!

Solution
1) No need to upgrade, your current hardware is more than enough. And no, I cant recommend an h100i to anyone.
2) The RMx would be the best unit on that list.

Thank you for your help, I decided for the RM850i in the end.
And about the cooler.. why wouldn't you recommend it? Sadly most of the good air coolers (>160mm height) will not fit my case..

I did some research before buying, and basically there are only some small differences between RMi and RMx units:

1) The RMi version has additional support for digital/analog Corsair Link connection and PSU Wattage/Temperature readings, featuring also a fan test hardware button.

2) According to Corsair's product page, the RMi features configurable +12V rail for running in default multi-rail +12V mode, or toggle single-rail operation.

This explains why the RMi is priced at a small premium. Anyway the units perform almost identically, the RMi is only a bit better thanks to the added functionality.

Regarding the cooler, the Noctua D14 should indeed fit, but it is so big I'm a bit afraid of getting it.. i was thinking of the NH-C14s, but it probably won't have the same overclocking potential. Though that's sad, since the h100i is so much better looking!
