Solution
Unfortunately you cannot interchange between Intel and AMD. Intel no longer make processors for that socket (1155) motherboard so to upgrade the CPU you would have to pick one up on ebay. If you could get either a 2500k (i5) or 2600k (i7) for a reasonable price then that is still a good chip. I am still running the generation before that and it is still doing well in modern applications and games but beware that would be the limit of being able to advance the processor before having to replace the motherboard as well for a more recent socket type.

Going back to your original problem though can you provide some information regarding your system such as temperatures of the CPU, is it a clean install of windows, what are your main uses...

That is certainly an option but with that cheap processor how much better of a situation would you be in than right now?? I would try and resolve the 100% CPU issue first and then see how it runs before spending more cash but it is up to you really.

You don't want an AMD CPU. Better to diagnose and fix what's wrong with your current setup.

Windows should be pretty snappy with a fresh install on any i3. Some potential reasons for it to be running slowly:

1) Viruses / malware
2) Overheating
3) Failing hard drive
