Any thoughts on my build/setup guys?

Hello!

I am about to finish picking out the components for my 1st build, and I want to ask you guys to share your opinions and thoughts on it. I am wondering how well the system will perform as well. Any tips for increasing stability of the system?

Here is the build/setup: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/TKzbXH

Also, the SSD wasn't featured on pcparticker.com, but you can find it here:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1063644-REG/samsung_mz_7ke512bw_850_pro_512gb_2_5.html/83E3A2DACE/BI/20098/KBID/13946

And here are some questions:

- Is the RAM (memory) OK?

- Are the pre-applied case fans good quality or should I purchase new ones (In which case I'm choosing another case, so if you think they are bad, suggest new full tower cases with good pre-applied fans or no fans at all. Note that im going for a black-red theme.)

- Any suggestions on cheaper parts with same specs and quality?

- If you have any critics for the rest of the system, feel free to express them

NOTE: the PSU and MB are overkill (PSU especially), but I plan expanding this same system in the future.

Thanks, PlushieX

That motherboard is not worth the added cost vs the performance gain, from a better graphics card. This is a black and white theme. There is a red version, of the case, with red fans, and you can always change the other fans to red version as well.

So, to your questions:

1. How will it perform? There's not going to be much that rig can't do extremely well. What is it you're planning to use it for?

2. Stability, keep temps as low as possible & if overclocking, ensure you're providing sufficient voltage (and be careful not to provide too much). Out of the box, at stock speeds that rig should be stable - assuming you don't receive a defective component.

3. The RAM is fine. I believe if you ever get to OCing via raising the BCLK, you'll also be OCing your RAM. At that point, you might find instability. Personally I'd pick up something in the 2666MHz - 2800MHz range just to allow that future OC.

4. Corsair fans are pretty decent in general, and the case comes with 3x AF140L which are pretty well reviewed themselves.

5. There's definitely room to get the same quality & performance for less money. Your biggest issue is going to be adding the 'keeping the colour scheme' requirement, and that limits the changes you can make without sacraficing quality, or increasing price.

Do you have an OS to use? You haven't included that in your build...

You haven't specified what you intend to use this rig for. Judging from the monitor and peripherals, I'm assuming a gaming rig.

My main critique of your build is the overkill nature of the motherboard & PSU - that you addressed yourself. A quality 750W PSU would be more than sufficient to allow you to SLI 1070's in future if you decided to. GPUs are trending to lower power consumption - I can't think of too many situations a 1000W PSU is going to particularly necessary.

I'll update in a minute with a revised build I'd suggest, trying to keep the theme & performance, while lower cost.

I'm seeing around $2,000 for the tower itself. ~$600 or so for the monitor/peripherals.

I'm only addressing the tower here. Monitor/peripherals (even case) are pretty personal choices.

Again, assuming a gaming rig:

I would still like to go with the ASUS ROG MB, the rest seems very good...

It is good obviously, but is it themed too? Because i would really like to have not only an efficient, but also nice looking setup.7

And yes, its a gaming setup.

Thanks for the reply!

Keeps your red & black theme throughout, and gets you a 1080, not a 1070.
Trade off the i7, you don't need it for gaming. The i5-6600K will do just as well.

I'm not sure what you feel you're getting from the ROG motherboard over a comparable.
I like ASUS, but even I can't say the ROG board is worth the ~$150 premium over the Gigayte board.
ASUS' UEFI is slightly easier, but again, not $150 easier!

Up to you though, if you have decided on that board, go for it. It's a great board.

I just finished a very similar build with a black and white theme. It's worked incredibly so far. By saving some loot in the PSU and Motherboard, I was able to upgrade the monitor to an IPS with G-sync, which I would highly recommend unless you're a competitive gamer. Also, you can find great deals on eBay for some of the components outside of your tower ($100 for the keyboard, $15 for the speakers, etc.). With some effort, you can cut another couple hundred off the price. I would not suggest buying internal components from eBay because I have been burned.
