Hi folks,

Hope you can help me i am trying to troubleshoot a PC. On pressing start, everything inside starts up, however i cannt get into BIOS, as i receive a 1 x long beep code----pause---- 1 x long beep code--------pause...... and carries on in this rythme. after trying to google the problem there seems to be no definate resolve to this problem, mostly all related to RAM. i get no video either, however i dont think the boot sequence gets that far before it starts peeping, as far as i can see the grafik card works fine, as the cooling fan spins

i have tried removing all 3 x 1GB RAM, trying each indivually in the first slot, to no resolve.
all 3 sticks of RAM cannot be faulty at the same time ????

i have tried removing all power from the mainboard, removed the CMOS battery, waiting ca 20 secs, and refitting the battery and all the connectors---------no resolve

is there anything i could have missed or overlooked??

P.S i cant test the grafik card, as i dont have any spares

yeah its a relative old mb set up, but up until a few days ago was working fine,

motherboard: Asus A8NE-FM/RoHS/S
PSU: Fortron FSP350-60THA-P
case: Standard
graphics card: Medion GeForce 6610XL Ver. 1.1A MS8979 20024178 VGA DVI 128MB PCI Grafikkarte
optical drive: Standard
HDD: western digital 250gb
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 socket 939
cooler: standard

sorry about late replies, in between i am twiddling around to try other stuff to get it to work

i have just tried with only the PSU and CPU / Heatsink, fires up, but still beeps as previously mentioned, tried a different PSU makes no difference.
tried then connecting PSU, CPU / heatsink and 1 stick of RAM but still makes no difference, 1 long beep tone still there.
i have a feeling that the mobo is probably is bad i.e up sh*t creak, because without the RAM it should have had 1 long beep followed by 2 or more short beeps

so at the moment after more fiddling around trying out different solutions, i think i can safely say, what i dont believe is causing the problem:-

Video card - because i dont even get that far to plugging it in, the long beep tone is there way before
PSU - tried different PSU, still same problem, long beep tone
RAM - tried different RAM stick and still long beep tone
only components i have tried since then as mentioned before is the PSU plugged into the motherboard, and cpu/heatsink with cooling fan fitted.

i also tried a diagnostic card and got the reading-

"(C1) Initialize POST Error Manager (PEM) "

so i am at the assumption either CMOS is BAD / MOBO is bad or the CPU is dead.

would be grateful for some more helpful tips and info

well after much searching around and writing on threads and other forums, i asked asus direct, tried their suggestion. yep lies ultimately with the mobo more precise the chip-set is FUBAR
