When is it time to upgrade my CPU?

Hello Everyone. Long time Toms Hardware viewer, first time poster. I know the unwritten rule is to search first and ask later, but I didn't see anyone else with my exact build ask this question.

I have a 2 year old i5 3570k (overclocked to 4.0 stable) in an ATX case with an EVGA Super clocked GTX 760. 8 Gig of Corsair memory and a 650 watt power supply. I use Win 10 Home.

The 760 is holding me back on achieving 60 FPS smoothly on the newer games coming out since mid 2014. I'm looking at that new shiny GTX 1080.

Will my 3570 run that card without bottlenecking? Do i need a new CPU and if so, what would you recommend? With a new CPU I'll need a new Mobo as well since the 1155 slot is dead now... what would you all recommend?

I'm sure I could probably "Squeeze" some more performance out of my rig for only a few bucks more but its been 2 years so I'm willing to spend some more cash at this point. I'm thinking the 1080 so I can buy another 1080 next year and run SLI and not really be behind.

Thanks for the advice!

That CPU will cause a small bottleneck in some games, however you likely would not even notice the performance loss, and in many games that are not CPU bound there will be none. While "bottleneck" is a term here used as if its a game killer the truth is every part can bottleneck every other part in some way, there is no perfect combo. As long as the game plays well give you high FPS and doesn't stutter or have performance issues you are good.

There is no reason to spend money on a new motherboard and processor just yet at all.
