I'm looking into upgrading my GPU. Have been reading up on the matter of course.
But have been seeing some negative feedback towards the Asus Strix 1070. But then again have seen people saying Strix is the best. I'm interested in why that is. I've written off every other GTX 1070, because of issues, I don't know. But I like these two most. What are your recommendations?

As far as I found, all are the same, temps are oscilating ~2-3c max, base clocks on some are higher on some lower but achiavable since it's based on luck how high you can overclock. So you can't go wrong, go with cheaper if you are on budget. Otherwise G1 is in my case aswel, very good so far.

G1 is a bit cheaper. Actually a lot cheaper now that I think of it. But I'm a little bit of an RGB sucker and love the look of the Strix. LED's through my shelves and desk and stuff. Blue when I'm feeling blue, you feel me? Don't know if it's worth it though. I will be getting the NZXT HUE+ so not sure what to do here.
Damn the aftermarket. Soooo in regards to the connections, why and what should I look out for? Is this related to VR?

The 2xHDMI+2xDP vs. 1xHDMI+3xDP is only important if you need multiple HDMI ports due to maybe using a TV and or the VIVE which currently isn't working correctly with DP on the 1070. If you aren't in need of the added HDMI port, or the extra DP port, it does not matter to you.

Well yeah. It's about 50 euro more expensive here. But they are both overpriced in Europe so I don't know.
If I'm going all out I mean, why nawt? The Strix has that sexy illuminated backplate, and Republic of Gamers logo aaaaargh. In terms of sexyness the sexiest 1070 out there. And besides I'm buying without VAT so... I dunno. Gotta check some stores. The Zotac Amp Extreme is about the same price though. Hmmmmm. Yeah I won't really be using anything more than a single monitor for now. My monitor has hdmi/vga so... Doesn't matter I guess.

After experiencing G1 and how overclock and GPU Boost 3.0 works on Pascal. Just get the cheapest one. No card will go on air over 2050mhz +, and even then on 55/60/65c will drop by 10-15mhz every time. So ONLY if you are going for watercooling and something like 2100mhz (calculate if it's worth lol), go for highest clocked and most silent.

I've seen cards go over 2150 on air cooling, so I don't know. Actually I'm thinking the 2 GHz mark is enough for me at this point.
But I did see that Galax OC'd their HOF 1080 at somewhere around 2,5-2,6 GHz, or so they claim. That would be insane at some point in time.

But anyways I love that the Strix has two 4-pin headers on itself, so that you can connect two fans to directly push or pull air with the rise of GPU temps (and I don't have to use splitters to fit all my fans on the motherboard haha)
It has 105% static pressure 0db fans , so that's a plus. Did I mention the sexy RGB backplate?

Sorry for bringing this oldish thread back up, but i'm in the same situation as OP.

the G1 is cheaper but I much prefer the strix look. I'm trying to justify the extra cost (about £50) to myself....

I feel like I will be kicking myself for not just spending the extra money in future.

How long do you think it will take for the 1070's to start dropping in price considering all the complaining about the high price?

I just noticed a 980ti is cheaper and actually gives better performance in most games... Nice work nvidia.

It's nice work indeed because it's old arhitecture now. -2gb vram despite same performance pretty much, 1-3fps better in some games for now until drivers don't go mature. Nothing to be suprised here. Prices will not go down at all until next year if even then. Maybe at one point when Ti get announced or released, otherwise no need.

Pascal is now standard for gpu's in terms of new hardware, prices might go down only for 9xx series no matter what, in fact 1070 was going up in some countries in between 20e and 50e over announced price.

Just watched the strix 1070 go from £479 to £499 on Overclockers.

Still £469 on amazon...

EDIT: just gone back to £469 on overclockers

They really cant make their minds up... I think it might stay at £469 for a while as most retailers seem to be sticking with that.

I think I'm going for the G1, because I can't put that much in. But now that I think of it hmmm. If it gives you two extra fans to connect, then I don't need a motherboard with 5 fan headers, and that's what I was going for. Hmmmmm.

what? o_O 980 ti is better than 1070?how is that possible?

The 980 ti and 1070 give very similar performance in DX11 games. In DX12 games, the 1070 will do better, and far better with A-compute. The 980ti is no longer made, but the stock is being cleared out at reduced prices. This is pretty standard fair for years.
