Will any 2.5 HDD fit in Dell XPS 15 L502X's drive bay?
Current HDD dimensions: 100.2mm (L) X 69.85 (W) X 9.5mm (H)

Height is 7mm:
WD5000LPLX

I don't know if the height makes the HDD rattle or break the SATA connector. The laptop is stationary and won't be moved around a lot. It is a little slanted because of the battery and the fan cooler.

Different dimensions:
ST500LM021
100.55mm (L) x 70.10mm (W) x 7mm (H)

Cheap with decent specs. Length and width are a little off. I don't know if exact measurement are needed to fit in the laptop case.

Recommendations to what HDD to buy is most appreciated.
Ideal HDD:

  • < $60
    <= 7200 RPM
    => 500 GB

Solution
Basically as long as the height of the new drive doesn't exceed the height of the original drive you should be fine. It'll mount in to the same bottom spot in the drive tray so there isn't a rattling or breaking loose to worry about.
