Can I use this set up? (In network cabinet): Cable Modem>5 Port Switch(which also connects to other rooms)> (In living room): WiFi Router. I would like some clarification on why the other ports on the switch doesn't send a signal to the devices connected to them.

Not properly, you want modem to router to switch. Now you CAN hook up a Modem to switch to router, but then the other devices need to connect to the router, not to the switch anyway.

The router is, apparently, providing the NAT function. Clients devices need to sit BEHIND the NAT device, nothing in front. So:
Modem ----> (no client should go here) ----> router (NAT ) ----> clients.
This should work properly:
Modem ---> Router ----> Siwtch ----> Clients.
