Can I use 2 graphics cards that are the same but are different makers?

I have an Asus gts250 1 gig and I want to add another one for SLI

Can I add like a PNY gts250 with both 1 gig of ram.

Would it use both gigs of ram or only 1 gig?

Solution
1. Yes, two same model cards will work together

2. The GTS 250 supports SLI

3. SLi works by having 1 card do odd nunbered frames and the 2nd card do even numbered ones ... they will both use their own 1 GB of RAM to load what they load.... this is not mean the you "have 2 GB"

4. Your MoBo must support SLI

5. You need a 600 watt minimum PSU w/ 2 6 pin PCIe connectors

Solution
Yes you can.
You will only have 1gb of vram available; it is not additive.

That said, sli of low level cards does not work well.
FPS benchmarks look good but you will be exposed to dual gpu issues such as screen tearing, stuttering and non support in some games.
I would advise selling your asus card in favor of a stronger single card such as a GTX750ti

My son had a GTX 295 which was basically twin 260s and it performed flawlessly ... it was an EVGA FTW and while it never was able to run at its factory overclock, never saw any screen tearing or stuttering and game support was more than acceptable..

Never saw it mentioned in any reviews either

But as a 7 year old card .... don't expect much in modern gaming.

Of course, another idea would be keeping the 250 as a Phys card and getting a more capable card ... then again, what's the rest of the system like
